About Doug Madden

Douglas P. Madden and Family


Doug Madden is a 17-year resident of Floral Park. He has been married to Susan (a teacher) since 1999. Doug is a father of three - son Brandon (17) and two daughters Bridget (15) and Jenna (12), all graduates of FPBS.

Doug also serves as Vice President of the Floral Park Little League Board of Directors responsible for softball programs. He is a parishioner and Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Victory, and a Third Degree member of the local Knights of Columbus Council #2345.

In Doug's professional life, he is a Senior Vice President and Compliance Officer of a global investment firm. He received a MBA in Finance and Accounting from Fordham University and a BA in Philosophy from St. John's University

Doug has been a Board of Education Trustee since 2017.
Doug has served as:

  • Vice President of the Board of Education 2020/2021
  • Strategic Planning Committee – BOE representative
  • A member of the Policy Committee

Doug also served as a community member for the Strategic Planning Committee from 2015 to 2017.

Accomplishments

What We Have Accomplished TOGETHER

  • A safe and successful return to in-person learning since October 2020.
    • Staunch advocacy for return of in-person learning
    • Proactively purchased:
      • PPE for teachers, students and staff
      • Plexiglass shields for every desk in the district
      • iPads enabling 1-1 rollout to every student in the district
      • Tents for outdoor classroom space
    • Established optional fully remote learning program
    • Fostered collaborative, productive relationship among Teachers Union, Administration and Board of Education
  • Building expansion project at FPBS and JLC from inception, to design, to construction:
    • Successful bond vote
    • Construction on-time and on-budget for September 2021 opening
    • Field irrigation included to improved community “green space”
  • Hired talented and dedicated district Superintendent
  • Hired a talented new Principal at FPBS starting in September 2021
  • $4 million of other building improvements in process or completed at FPBS and JLC
  • 4 consecutive Tax Cap-compliant budgets passed, a 5th proposed for May 18, 2021 vote
  • Fiscally responsible management of taxpayer funds

What's Next?

  • Safely manage full return to normal, post-pandemic; emphasize social and emotional support for students; restart School Life Plus and Saturday Enrichment programs
  • Support integration of technology to enhance learning opportunities; Apple Certified teachers
  • Support development and full implementation of the NYS Next Generation Learning Standards
  • Create transformational learning opportunities afforded by the building expansion project, including a state-of-the-art Discovery Lab/STEM space that will be instrumental in delivering 21st Century learning skills to our students
  • Expand our Pre-Kindergarten program to 4-days providing high quality early childhood learning experiences for our youngest students
  • Continue our partnership with the Sewanhaka Central High School District to support shared vision for learning with emphasis on successful student transitions to Sewanhaka from FPBSD
  • Intend to seek BOE nomination so that I may represent FPBSD on the Sewanhaka BOE
  • Fiscal responsibility in the face of potential New York State budget cuts
  • Refurbish the school libraries to warm, modern and comfortable spaces
  • Return “flexible furniture” initiative to classrooms, post-pandemic

  We have accomplished so much, and we have so much more ahead of us.
